John Thompson has lived and served in the inner city of Chicago for 33 years.

After graduating from Grand Rapids Baptist Seminary John has served as a Program Director with Inner City Impact in Chicago as well as Youth Pastor, Minister of Christian Education and Education  Pastor in three Churches. For thirteen John has served on the staff of Armitage Baptist Church in Chicago where he was Pastor of Discipleship. Currently John serves with the Navigators Church Ministries, coaching pastors as they develop disciple making as a primary ministry of their church.

Along with the discipleship and men’s ministries, John has directed the Chicago Armitage Urban Study Experience (CAUSE), a ministry to expose and train people in urban ministry and has served as President of Chicago Hope, a mercy ministry of Armitage Baptist Church

In the past 33 years John has taught in many Christian colleges and seminaries. As Adjunct Professor of Urban Ministries at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary he taught the one-week module on Urban Ministry for people in the Doctor of Educational Ministry Program.

John has authored two books; Urban Impact: Reaching the World through Effective Urban Ministry and Changing the Landscape of Eternity: Transforming Believers into Disciples.

John and his wife Debbie live in Chicago and have raised four children, all adults faithfully serving the Lord.
